Your Life…..

Do you know that the greatest possession in life , is your life?
It is the greatest thing that you have. Without your life, there is no marriage, no job, no love, no business, no family and definitely no you. There is virtually nothing. The devil knows the value of your life, he knows you will do anything to have your life. We can see a clear picture in Job 2:4 ” Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life” The devil said this to God when he wanted to tempt Job.

I remember the story of a couple who has been married for 18 years. They were approached by armed robbers while driving along the street. After the robbers finished stealing from them, they said to them ” we normally don’t let our victims live but in your own case, we would kill one of you!. We are giving you guys five minutes to decide who should die for the other. The husband looked at the wife and the wife looked at the husband. The husband said” Honey! You know am the bread winner, if I die no one would provide you your daily bread “selfish right? The woman replied “If there is no bread, I will eat egg”. This argument persisted and the robbers out of frustration killed the couple. Obviously, none of them was willing to die for the other despite the love they’ve professed to one another all these years. This is not far fetched from what is said in Job 2:4.

The greatest gift God can give to any man is long life. There is no satisfaction without long life, you can have a good home, a good business, beautiful children, good connections, good marriage, beautiful children but with all these you won’t be satisfied if you don’t have long life. The Bible also went ahead to say in Ecclesiastes 10:4 “But all who are among the living have hope, because a living dog is better than a dead lion”,  this is because our greatest possession still remains our life and nothing satisfies like long life. It’s so vital and so crucial.

While having good and long life is vital, the greatest, most important thing we need to bear in mind is “what are we doing with our life? What are we getting out of life? What are the people around us getting out of our life? What are friends, neighbours, relations getting out of our life? What will our generations born and yet unborn get out of our life after we’ve long gone? What is the church of God getting out of our life? What is the world we are living in getting out of our life?…..

The real measurement of a man is not in how long he lives, but in the impact he makes with his life. We need to constantly ask ourselves “What are we doing with our life?….
To my father in the Lord, Rev George Adeoye….Thank you. You inspired this.

  1. Unless we find something worth dying for , life is not worth living. We need to value something higher than our own life to be able to value life. Because it provides a meaning for life.
There are couples who die for the other. Not everybody is selfish.

  5. What is life about?

Years have seemed to pass like seconds. A familiar face in the market has brought back all the nostalgia and memories. Days turn into nights and weekends turn to weekdays and we work on and on , like machines , grinding against the noise , to support ourselves and the ones we hold dear. But have we ever stopped for a single minute, to not do anything, to just breathe , to just be?  The years have taught us a great many lessons , we have laughed , we have cried , we have feared , we have felt joy , sadness ,anger ,betrayal and loss , euphoria , madness , relief , jealousy and every other emotion on a spectrum . We have traveled , met people, felt lonely , connected with people and the internet , listened to people, listened to songs, got a new haircut , read things , wrote things and talked. But ever have we introspected ourselves, our emotional growth and our soul’s whispers? Have we ever really asked ourselves what is it that we really want , what is it that we are here for? Have we ever told ourselves that life isn’t about materialistic things and cars and jewellery, technological devices and watches ,rather,Its about making people smile , being there for others and for ourselves. Its about dancing in the rain , counting the clouds with a six year old. Its about long walks and late night talks. Its about the people we meet and connect with. Its about helping and being a shoulder to cry on. Life is all about the summer and the sweet smell of it.
