As people who want to enjoy our lives today and be strong and healthy for the future, we need discipline in so many areas of our lives. This includes: our eating and exercise habits; the way we use our time; our thoughts, words and emotions; our ability to respond to criticism properly and endure suffering.
I have never heard someone say discipline is easy, but the point is not ease; it’s result. Hebrews 12:11 says, ” For the time being no discipline brings joy, but seems grievous and painful; but afterwards it yields a peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it( a harvest of fruit which consists in righteousness, in conformity to God’s will in Purpose, thought, and action, resulting in right living and right standard with God).”
Discipline is something we do for ourselves; it does not bring immediate joy or results, but later on, it yields good fruit to those who submit to it. As the writer of Hebrews asserts, discipline trains us. It is a tool for us to use for our own good not task master for us to resent or despise. It produces good fruit and brings about healthy, positive results. When discipline is down, like a good seed, it yields harvest of things that fulfil and satisfy us, things that make us happy and release peace and joy in our lives.
I have discovered over the years that disciplined people always go the extra mile. They don’t take short cuts and they do more than necessary to just get by. They don’t expect to reap where they have not down or hope others will do their work for them. Disciplined people are prepared when doors of opportunity open, and they never take the easy way out. I can categorically say they are investors not gamblers. They know how to say no to others and to themselves.
#How disciplined are you?…….
I am so busted on this when it comes to not eating sweets. I am doing better, however, and I am walking every day! So I am working on being disciplined in that area.

Thank you weedjee, it’s good to know you have parents that supports discipline. Without discipline we humans are bound to be reckless and at a higher chance of taking things overboard. This is a wonderful contribution, thanks a lot for sharing.
