Worthy Sacrifice…

How much of our sacrifice will God consider worthy? How much of our praises, worships, thanksgiving, will God consider as worthy enough? Psalms 51:17 (KJV)   says “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

As I was observing my siesta after i returned from service, i don’t know if i was dreaming but all i kept hearing was “worthy sacrifice, worthy sacrifice”. I quickly woke up and knew God wanted me to write on this topic. I started by asking myself what kind of sacrifice will I offer to the Lord and it will be considered a worthy sacrifice? What kind of sacrifice will you offer to God and it will be considered a worthy sacrifice?

Abraham is the father of many nations, loved and blessed by God. Today we are proud to say we are the sons of Abraham. We even have a popular song we sing in Nigeria “Father Abraham has many sons, many sons have father Abraham, I am one of them and so are you, so let us práise the Lord”. Abraham moved the hand of God with his sacrifice. It took him years of waiting and trusting God till his old age for him to have a son. As if that wasn’t enough, he obeyed and was willing to sacrifice his only son, the son of his old age to God without minding the fact that he may never get another one. God saw this and blessed him beyond his horizons. He recognised that all he has came from the Lord. God recognised this as a worthy sacrifice and today Abraham is still talked about and will be talked about amongst generations and generations to come.

David is another man that moved God with his sacrifice regardless of his weaknesses. Remember the great dancer that danced and his wrapper fell off? That was david. David went to bring back the ark of God from the house of Obededom after it was noised of how Obededom and his household was blessed as a result of the presence of the ark of God in his home. Upon returning David danced with all his might and his wrapper fell. His wife mocked him but God was moved as to how a king could dance before everyone to the point his wrapper fell off. God saw this and considered it a worthy sacrifice. I don’t know if I would ever be a good dancer like David but surely i want to offer a sacrifice that would be worthy and move the hand of God. “2 Samuel 6:12-16”

Everyone says Solomon was a wise man and believe it was his wisdom that brought him all the riches well it was the wisdom of God and the fact that he built the most beautiful house for the ark of God, a house his father could not build. His father David has already opened the way for him through his sacrifice and although God didnt allow David to build him his house, he allowed his son Solomon to do that. God saw the act of Solomon as a worthy sacrifice and blessed him beyond his realms.
If we have this mind set then we will understand that it’s not about our titles, Children, husband, achievements, wives, that got us to where we are but rather the mercies of God and the fact that God does not joke with his sacrifices. Psalms 51:17 (KJV)  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. We need to understand that there are sacrifices and there are worthy and acceptable sacrifices.
If we serve God genuinely we will understand that all we have is God and all we need is God and he needs us.  How much of you are you willing to offer to God?

  1. Excellent! I would also throw out to your Mark 12:32-34. To love God with all our being and to love our neighbour as ourself is greater than all offerings and sacrifices!

    1. How did i forget this verse? Well i chose my sacrifice to be a broken heart and a contrite spirit. I believe when am broken both in my heart and in my Spirit, to love God and my neighbour becomes easy. For no man can love another of his own strength, he will only grow weary. But we can if we have the love of God. Thank you very much for your wonderful contribution. It’s always a pleasure to have you around. It’s been a while. How have you been?

      1. I like how you connect them because they are part of the while picture.
I am well, thanks for asking. It’s been fairly busy the last month or so and I haven’t been able to give much attention to WordPress stuff. I’m part of a team that does mental health workshops for youth and we were ramping up for a big event May 27. Now we are about to launch (first one tonight!!) a Facebook Live session called Hope Groups. Plus preparing for a triathlon, plus work, plus family, plus, plus plus… Know what I mean?
How about you? How’s it going?
