The Beauty Of Mercy….

We all make mistakes in life, do things we shouldn’t do,it’s easy to live guilty, filled with regrets and feel washed up. We can understand how God will bless us when we do things right, making good choices, it’s easy to expect good things, believe our dreams to come to pass but the beauty of mercy is even when we make mistakes, even when we go the wrong way, our performances is not perfect, God doesn’t say too bad, you had your chance now you have to do this on your own. Now this is where mercy shows up. God will not only help bring you out of the mess you got yourself into, he’ll take it one step further and help clean up the mess you made. Maybe it’s a relationship you knew you shouldn’t have gotten yourself into, you didn’t feel good about it, you heard the alarm going off but you ignored it and now it’s a mess causing your heart ache and pain or perhaps it’s a job you weren’t supposed to take in, you didn’t feel good about it, you had that uneaseness on the inside but you over rode it and did it anyway and now it’s a mess. You are not fulfilled and don’t feel treated right.

God doesn’t say I tried to tell you, maybe next time you’ll listen. No! God is not holding that against you. He has you covered. His mercy is bigger than that mistake. His mercy will help not to only turn it around, but God will help clean it up and cause something good to come out of it. But if this is going to happen, you can’t go through life feeling guilty, condemned, beating yourself up because of past mistakes. Thinking “oh man i knew I shouldn’t have hung around those people, I shouldn’t have taken that money i saw lying carelessly on the floor, I shouldn’t have told those lies, I shouldn’t have cheated, i shouldn’t have taken that drug and now i have this addiction. I should have stayed in school, i should have been faithful to my relationship, what was i thinking? No, it takes boldness to believe that God will bless you inspite of your mistakes. The acuser will tell you; You can’t ask God to help you, you’ve made a mess, you’ve gone the wrong way, you are unfaithful, God is not going to listen to you, who do you think you are? Answer him; I am a child of the most high God, reedeemed, forgiven, and covered by mercy.

This what a man i knew did. His name was Jonah. God told him to go to the city of Nineveh, share the good news with the people but Jonah didn’t want this, he didn’t want to go. He wanted to do his own thing and went in the opposite direction. He got on a boat heading the wrong way. They encountered a huge storm, everybody on board thought they were going to die. Finally Jonah admitted “Hey everyone, i’m the problem, i’m the one causing all this problem. They didn’t say it’s ok Jonah, we’ll let it slide, we forgive you, rather they threw him over board. They didnt want to go down with him. Jonah thought he was done, it was his fault, he did exactly opposite of what God has asked him to do and now he’s getting exactly what he deserves. He was drinking water from the middle of the sea, dark and scary. But God said Jonah you can run the other way but you can’t out run my mercy, it’s from ever lasting to ever lasting. Wherever you go, I’ve got you covered.

The psalmist put it this way; If you go to the depths of the sea or way up into the sky, no matter how high or how low, you can never run away from God’s mercy. He’ll always be there waiting for you, calling your name, giving you another chance, ready to help, ready to clean up the mess you’ve made. He’s got you covered by his mercy.

  1. You’re scratching the surface of the two deep problems we have. First, there is The Great Lie about God – he’s not loving, caring, trustworthy. All of us have at least a little of this lie inside us.
Second, we often relate to God transactionally. I do my part now God does his part; tit for tat.
Grace (mercy) upends both problems but the problems make it hard to embrace grace.

    1. Thank you very much for your kind response. I am very much aware that there is a very big problem with the world today but that doesn’t change the state of grace and mercy that God has given us. I don’t have that notion that God is not trust worthy nor caring because the life I live now is not mine but that of Christ. The scripture admonishes in Philippians 2:5-11 that let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus…. I believe the problem will be solved when we allow the mind which is in us to allign with that of Christ.

      1. God’s grace is ever present and sure. What I meant was, we’ve all been affected by the lie told about our loving Father. Yet, to the degree we abide in Christ is to the same degree we as healed and set free from the lie.
The lie and our brokenness lead us to live transactionally towards God. Have you noticed that for some, even grace is a transaction? “If I do this and that I receive God’s grace.”

        1. Yes my dear I have noticed. What a wrong notion of grace. While we were yet sinners Christ died for us. That was grace! We didn’t have to do anything, before God sent his son. If only the world have a clearer picture of what God’s grace(mercy) was all about…. Thank you for this wonderful piece. God bless you

Mercy a taboo word in the vocabulary of lot of human beings, we’re are citizens and no perfect machines and when you’re saying… mercy it could be a celestial word in order to living on seventh heaven. A fab word from my mom, of you ‘re saying mercy… real y you’re a real citizen and building a path to a future and eternal friendship.

I still love God’s Grace, but after reading this article and thinking about my life and what’s happened to me especially recently I think God was showing me mercy every time I just didn’t see it. He still continues to show me mercy. I just recently turned my life back over to him and I feel alive. I feel different. God’s mercy is a beautiful thing. I truly believe that he showed mercy to me and I’m so glad. I’m so glad!! Thanks for sharing this beautiful truth!!

    1. While reading this and got to this part where you said “I just recently turned my life back to him” I dropped down and said “Yes! Thank you Jesus…. You have no idea the joy I feel in my heart knowing you are at peace with God and have him in your life. God’s mercy, love and grace is forever abounding and I pray you will experience tremendous encounter with him as you walk in his grace daily. I am glad I shared. God’s blessings to you always. He loves you so much.

      1. Thanks Whitney. I appreciate that so much. I am too. I feel different since I turned my life back over to him. I feel alive. I feel good. I feel on fire like I never have before. It’s amazing. Thank you for your prayers. They mean so much to me. I think God is answering them. I feel him answering them in my life. It’s amazing that you can actually feel people praying for you?! I never used to, but I have on a occasion, but here lately I have felt people praying for me. It’s amazing and wonderful too. Yes he does. He loves us all.
