If you spend your life trying to be good at everything, you will never be great at anything- Tom Rath.
If we must leave our comfort zones and excel, then we’ve got to focus more on our strengths. Leave what you cannot do and focus more on what you can do. It’s true that memory is a wonderful power. It is the store house in which we keep the records of experience of our lives. We’ve got to make our own memories and write our own records. It doesn’t necessarily have to be all your strengths, it could be just one or two, just focus on making your greatest traits stronger and run with them.
A wise man once said, ‘Take the bull by the horns until you have him screaming for mercy.’ Almost without exception every man and woman in the Bible whom God called to do great things felt inadequate, and told him so. And how did God respond to them? ‘I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand’ (Isaiah 41:10 NLT). You may feel you are inadequate, not good enough, odd, remember that most of the people God worked with were regarded as not good enough but because they were chosen by God they became good enough and qualified.
It is true that when you challenge your fears, you master them. When you wrestle with your problems, they lose their grip on you. When you dare to confront the things that scare you, you open the door to the future. But most importantly, it’s in taking action that you overcome your fear! Mason writes: ‘The desire for safety stands against every great and virtuous dream. Security, many times, is the first step towards stagnation. Boldness in vision is the first, second, and third most important thing. If you dare nothing, you should expect nothing.’
The music we hear in our lives as life goes on, is the treasured echoes of our own lives in the days that are gone. My practical suggestion today is, if we must make our life’s memories sweet and memorable, we must live beautifully, purely, unselfishly and helpfully.
Embrace your weaknesses, if you can work on them, work on them. If you can’t, then channel your energy on your strengths. Focus on them and make the best of them all as you step out of your comfort zone.
Remember, whatever opportunity or obstacle you’re facing today, factor God in. With him on your side, what you have is always greater than whatever you lack. Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid…[of] them… the Lord your God will…go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor [forsake] you’ (Deuteronomy 31:6 NLT).
