The Agony Of Regrets…

Some people decide not to choose life for some reason best known to them. They make decisions that lead to strife instead of peace, to bondage instead of freedom, or to misery instead of joy. I believe the primary result of wrong choices is regret, which means: to feel sorry, disappointed, or distressed about something, to feel sorrow or grief over.

The world today is full of people who live with regret. Most of the time, you can identify these people because they seem to have a sense of heaviness, sadness, or grief about them for an apparent reason and often for a long period of time. These are people who are sorry about most everything. They are sorry about their lives, sorry about what they have done and what they haven’t done. Sorry they didn’t finish their education, sorry they fell in love, sorry they loved, sorry they married, sorry they are in dept, sorry they messed up even when they know it wasn’t their fault, sorry they didn’t spend much time with the children, sorry they didn’t get that deal, sorry their boss is angry with them..

Living in an attitude of sorrow and regret simply robs these people of the joy they could experience every day and of hope for a better tomorrow. It’s totally normal to regret a wrong act but living constantly in regret is tantamount to destruction of one’s self by himself. Wrong choices cause regret and we experience regrets, we need to deal with it and let it teach us how to make a better choices in the future.

Believe me, I understand firsthand that wrong choices lead to regret. I sometimes look back and regret never having to do some of the things I mapped out to do. Each time I looked around I saw the difference I would have made if I had done what I wanted to do. That used to upset me, but now I realize I can do something about it. It is never too late to make good choices and start reaping good results.

So, if you find yourself regretting some of the unwise decisions or choices you have made in life, don’t be deceived into thinking it is too late to do anything about it. You can get out of dept, you can make your relationship better, you can increase your positive energy, or do anything you want to do. All you need to do is begin and stick with it!

Good evening!

  1. Whitney, I am totally spellbound after reading this. You write complicated phases/ experiences of life very clearly. I am writing to pen down my experience and stuck-up somewhere in middle. Tell me how do you write so easily?

    1. I ask myself the same question too sometimes. There are times when words don’t come out right and there are times I hit walls too. Nevertheless, I’m always inspired by almost everything. I listen to people from various works of life narrate their ordeals, some leaves me speechless and many others in awe. It’s never easy working around these tales and penning them down without being bias but then wisdom and experience has being my guide. I have an organized mind and I read a lot. To me, writing comes easy to those who are passionate about it.
I rely so much on the Holy Spirit for insights and inspiration as well. I don’t think I can write without him.
Thank you very much for asking. I hope I answered your question.

  2. The past belongs to history, the present belongs to us.
Regretting is not the problem, the problem is to carry the regret all the way instead of putting it in the waste bin, using the broom to sweep off the dirt and make a new decision.

………. Thanks for putting this lines down.

      1. It’s never easy letting go but it’s more painful to hold on. Take it one step at a time. Start by confronting the situation, next you see various options available as to why you did what you did, next you forgive yourself and whatever it is that led you to it, next you give yourself time to heal. Don’t force it, trust God every step of the way. He’s always with you.

  3. Having delt with many people contiplating suicide, trying suicide and those succeeding, pain seems to have been the reason for their distress. They can no longer stand the pain whether it be physical or mental. The are suffering and the only way to end the suffering is to die. It is unfortunate that some can not see that you can learn from your mistakes or misguided choices.
    Great post!

    1. It’s really unfortunate buddy and very sad too. We’ve got to derive inspiration from everything around us regardless of how much we are hurting. It’s never easy I know but it’s not impossible .There is no limit to the things you can learn from everything that happens around you.
Thank you very much buddy for this wonderful contribution. I’m glad you dropped by.

  4. This so true. I used to be one of those people. It took a long time for me to see it, but when I began to do my gratitude journal and I started writing down things I was grateful for that changed everything. I began to see things differently and I live each day as if it were my last and I don’t worry about tomorrow like I used to. I still make bad choices, but I’m learning how to make better ones and not to feel bad about mistakes I’ve made in the past. I’m trying to fix it if I can and if I can’t then I just can’t. God is changing me and I feel him changing me. I’ve never felt that before and it has changed so much for me. God is good.

    1. We are still learning my dear and as long as you are open to learning new things you can never be outdated. Indeed our God is a good God. It only gets better with Him by your side.
