Good Deeds… Necessary?

Of course they are!

Ever wondered how much good is actually good enough to be considered good? Why you do something good for someone with all your heart, only for it to be considered “Not good enough”? Ever felt reprimanded for showing off any time you did good? Ever felt you want to do but something good but something keeps pulling you back? We’ve all been there and used that bus. The world hasn’t made it easy for us either-2 Timothy 3:3.

There’s always a reason for this. Being good and kind is something we all desire consciously and unconsciously but the fear of being judged, misunderstood, and criticized has left many helpless. Some people don’t know how to respond to good deeds from other people. Some are not very good in expressing their feelings or gratitude towards any good done to them. Some are very proud and egoistic while many others are often ungrateful.

Good deeds can be scary, gaining courage and strength to make a good decision is like starring fear in the face. We are so scared of doing good to the point we’ve forgotten how to be compassionate. We care much about what people will say concerning our good deeds than what God has said. Nobody looses when it comes to doing good no matter how psyched up our minds and worlds are.

We can’t go by look to do good because if we look at faces we may conclude wrongly. Some wear smiles every day and you conclude “she doesn’t need me”, “he doesn’t need me”, some don’t know how to smile and so we say “he looks proud”, “she looks arrogant”, “she’s so full of herself”, etc. These are all wrong assertions. The person wearing a smile could be doing that to cover up his or her scars and weaknesses. The other person frowning could be doing that to keep fake people out and be on defense at all times against getting hurt. That should be your benchmark for doing good.

We need to learn how to do good no matter what it will cost us. Jesus went about doing good even though he was hated and rejected. As his children he expects us to do the same-“phillipians 2:5, 3:15”. It feels good to do good no matter what and the measure you give is the measure you receive.

Doing good not only makes you happy it also makes you grow. Mathew 5:16″Let your light so shine that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven “. Let’s ensure that our good deeds are fruitful to us and useful to our benefactors. The best choice is to run with God and allow him use us. We must turn deaf ears to negativity around us and keep doing good.

  1. It’s been said that the judgment hinges on the single point made in Matthew 25 (sheep and goats) where the Big Question from God is, “What did you do with the love I have you?” Just note that’s not a salvation question – it’s from salvation that good comes.

      1. For contrast, remember when at Christ’s return, people list their good works, but Jesus calls them out as evil doers and that he doesn’t know them.

          1. Reminds me of this quote:
“I ask, How can I present this matter as it is? The Lord Jesus imparts all the powers, all the grace, all the penitence, all the inclination, all the pardon of sins, in presenting His righteousness for man to grasp by living faith–which is also the gift of God. If you would gather together everything that is good and holy and noble and lovely in man, and then present the subject to the angels of God as acting a part in the salvation of the human soul or in merit, the proposition would be rejected as treason. Standing in the presence of their Creator and looking upon the unsurpassed glory which enshrouds His person, they are looking upon the Lamb of God given from the foundation of the world to a life of humiliation, to be rejected of sinful men, to be despised, to be crucified. Who can measure the infinity of the sacrifice! {1888 816.1}”
