Abraham Lincoln – “Surely God would not have created such a being as man to exist only for a day! No, no, man was made for immortality”.
Life on earth is just the dress rehearsal before the real production. We will spend far more time on the other side of death “in eternity” than we will here. Earth is the staging area, preschool, the tryout for our life in eternity. It is the practice workout before the actual game; the warm up lap before the race begins. This life is preparation for the next.
At most, we will live a hundred years on earth, but we will spend forever in eternity. Our time on earth is as Sir Thomas Browne said “but a small parenthesis in eternity”. We were not made to last forever.
One day our hearts will stop beating. That will be the end of our body and time on earth, but it will not be the end of us. Our earthly body is just a temporary residence for our spirit. “If your time on earth were all there is to your life, I would suggest you start living it up immediately“!
“This life is just a dress rehearsal for the afterlife… Pick the right dress!
If we were asked how long we would like to live on earth, our response would be forever right? A famous Nigerian Comedian Basket Mouth once told a joke about how everyone wants to make heaven and yet not willing to die. Many wants to be free form their bondages and shackles but not ready for any sacrifice.
When we fully comprehend that there’s more to life than just here and now, preparation for eternity, preparation for the aftermath, then we will begin to live differently.
Living life in light of eternity, will add color to how we handle every relationship, how we treat other people, task, and even circumstances. Suddenly many activities, goals, and even problems that seemed so important will appear trivial, petty, and unworthy of our attention. The closer we live to God, the smaller everything else appears.
