Keep Your Temper- Nobody Else Needs It!

Good day everyone! Today, I came across a Filipino saying “Postpone today’s anger until tomorrow. It sounded funny but as funny as it sounds I intend to apply it as often as I can. When you are upset, take a lesson from modem science: Always countdown before blasting off. Seneca quipped, ” The best cure for anger is a delay”. Don’t fly into a rage unless you are prepared for a rough landing.

Anger falls one letter short of danger. People who constantly blow fuses are generally left in the dark. If you lose your head, how can you expect to use it? Blowing your stack never fails to add to the air pollution. How many ideas have you had while you are angry? How many expensive words have you said when you were upset? The truth is, you will never get to the top if you keep blowing yours!

One of the worst fruits of anger is revenge. No passion of the human heart promises so much and pays so little like that of revenge. The longest odds in the world are those against getting even with someone. Instead of revenge, consider what the Bible orders; “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head”.(Romans 12:19-20)

Anger comes back to you, and it will surely hit you harder than anyone or anything which you throw it. Time spent in getting even is better used in trying to get ahead. Revenge is like biting a dog because the dog has bitten you. When trying to get even, you will always do odds and unhelpful things.

Marcus Antonius wrote, ” Consider how much more you often suffer from your anger and grief than from those very things for which you are angry and grieved. I love what David Hume said, ” He is happy whose circumstances suit his temper, but he is more excellent who can suit his temper to any circumstances”.

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city”. Proverbs 16:32

Life is like a mirror, if you frown at it, it frowns back; if you smile, it returns the greeting. Keep your temper, nobody else needs it!

  1. I enjoyed reading this.
Anger will hold u back when you don’t control it.
I can’t lie tho, that kill them with kindness don’t work to me.
I’m a keep it real like I don’t look for trouble or nothing but I treat people the way they treat me.
But I also do pick the appropriate time to fight a battle as well

    1. You’re most welcome. I learned a long time to pick my fights carefully because not every battle is worth fighting.
Anger lies in the bosom of fools.😊

  2. Temperamental sums it up. When there is an imbalance between the two components, trouble will ensue. But one without the other is either a delay tactic or cowardice. Both are necessary for a satisfactory conclusion of the negotiation/conflict of interests.

    1. True words Galtz, as humans we are all born with different and special traits that may not be tolerated by another. They may not even be simple. Striking a balance between the two will help define our humanity and relatively bring peace.
We’ve got to learn to control our tendencies under certain conditions.
Thank you for this intelligent response.
