In our contemporary world, the social structures are becoming less rigid, less clearly defined than they used to be. Although most people are, of course still conditioned by their environment, they no longer automatically assign a function and with it an identity.
As tribal cultures developed into the ancient civilizations, certain functions began to be allotted to certain people: ruler, priest or priestess, warrior, farmer, educator, counselor, doctor, merchant, craftsman, laborer, etcetera.
A class system developed. Your function, which in most cases you were born into helped in determining your identity, determined who you were in the eyes of others, as well as in your eyes. Your function became a role, but never recognised it as a role: it was who you were, or thought you were.
As I write now, more and more people are confused as to where they fit in, what their purpose is, and even who they are. The number of confused people in our world today is becoming alarming.
How did we get here? What gave rise to all the confusions? Can we cease looking to thoughts and opinions for an identity?
When we fully accept that we don’t know, we actually enter a state of peace and clarity that is closer to who we truly are more than thoughts could ever be.
It’s time we stopped defining ourselves through thoughts and opinions of others.
Good morning everyone. Lovely weekend to us all.
Love and Peace

Well said, buddy. I’m not disputing that. But where and how do we draw the line so as not to lose our self-confidence? Caution is the parent of safety.
